Can You Get A Decent Gaming PC For 1000?

This is a question I am asked constantly, and it’s one of the most common questions I get. It’s the budget beginner gamer sweet spot – 1000 bucks for a full gaming machine that can play modern games at midrange settings with good framerates. There are many different routes you can take to this answer, but I will just go into generalities.

Ideal Balance of Cost and Performance: A few years ago, 1000 bucks could get you a respectable gaming machine for midrange settings on most games. However, as time has progressed and technology advanced, and new and more powerful graphics cards have been released, 1000 dollars will not buy you the same power it used to. There are some fantastic deals to be had on older 500 and 600 series cards, but as mentioned before as technology has advanced the price has come down as well. There are a ton of options, so I’ll just hit on a few of my favorites.

The sweet spot

This would have been at the time AMD Radeon RX 580 or the NVIDIA GTX 1650S. Both cards can be found at the $1000 mark easily and will play any game on the market today and even some that aren’t out yet. If you can find one of these for under $400 used, buy it.

The next step up

If you want to get into a card with a little bit more power and keep the same budget, I would look at AMDs Radeon RX 580. It’s a very powerful card for $500 new and will play any game you throw at it on high settings.

The top dog

If you want to invest in your rig for future-proofing or can increase your spending, take a peek at the AMD Radeon RX 580. It’s a card that can stay relevant for quite some time, even though it might have dropped in price recently.

As you can see, there are plenty of cards at or below the $1000 mark that will play games on high settings with good framerates. Just remember to pick out your own parts carefully and you will be able to get the most out of your $1000 gaming pc.

How Good is A $1000 Gaming PC?

A 1000 dollars gaming pc is powerful enough to play most games at max settings. This build is similar to my old 1000-dollar gaming pc build.

This pc will play most games on high-ultra settings. It’s about as good as a console in terms of graphics, but you get more power for your money with a PC.

This computer would be powerful enough to run VR (HTC Vive or Oculus Rift). It will run VR games but you’ll need to upgrade your graphics card if you want to be able to run all the newest titles on high settings.
